CHALLENGE
There construction of the 110/15/6 kV substation posed a significant challenge, as the facility had to remain fully operational throughout the project in order to supply power to the EC Zgierz node, business clients, and a large portion of Zgierz residents. The modernization of the CHP plant — shifting from coal to gas cogeneration — required both 6 kV and, at a certain stage, 15 kV power supply. Adapting the legacy systems to new equipment demanded unconventional technical solutions. Close cooperation and coordination with both the investor and EC Zgierz were essential to the project's success.
SOLUTION
The project involved the replacement of the 110 kV switchgear (two line bays and a bus coupler) and two 110/15 kV transformers, including the construction of oil containment pits and a drainage system. A new 15 kV medium-voltage switchgear building with a 24-bay switchboard was constructed. An SOT system and an additional 2 km medium-voltage supply line were implemented. The project also included the deployment of communication and telecontrol systems.

summary

The "Modernization and Construction of the 110/15 kV Boruta Substation" project successfully addressed the challenges of upgrading critical energy infrastructure. Through close cooperation with the Investor and EC Zgierz, and a professional approach to every phase of the project, the goals were achieved — leading to a reduction in system failures and enhanced safety and reliability of power supply for the local community. The project's high cost reflected its complexity and the use of advanced technologies, which were essential to delivering the expected outcomes.
